Beautiful And Damned By Robert M. Drake
Prologue: In the midst of an emotional breakdown, Angela felt as if her life was nothing more than a collection of meaningless events filled with meaningless people. Six months ago, she moved to New York City for a new job and all the excitement that the city had to offer. But nothing was going as she'd planned. She felt overwhelmed at work. New friendships never panned out. The weather never befriended her, and sometimes she missed home. It was this day, after one too many e-mails filled with complaints, one too many phone calls from rude customers, that she finally reached the tipping point. "That's it. I can't take it anymore!" She slammed down the phone receiver and stormed out of the office. A few moments later, she was in a bathroom stall sobbing.
With the same loyalty as the people she met in the city, many coworkers heard her as they passed the restroom, but none went to her aid. A half hour had passed, and finally, she took a deep breath, wiped her tears, and returned to her desk. In that short time, e-mails flooded her inbox and countless messages jammed her phone. Ignoring everything, she just sat there. Each new e-mail, each ring of the phone, added more pressure. Although the crying helped, her overwhelming frustration shot to full tilt and without much thought, she walked into her boss's office in a silent outrage.
